Greetings, circus-goers! The massive 1.0 update is coming out this Friday, March 24! At this point it's taken more development time than the actual initial release, but I think we're reaching a point where I can really call the game complete. I still have plans for further updates, but we'll go into that some other time... But for now, here's the full list of changes you can look forward to! See you soon!
Circus of Misrule 1.0 Patch Notes
Major Changes
- Delve into the deepest depths of the Circus, with at least 30 waves!
- Take on dangerous Curses! They make your run harder, but surely there's a reward for holding on to them?
- Added the Undead tribe, which revives upon death, and 7 new vermin associated with it!
- Added 4 new non-Undead vermin
- The shop now offers 4 vermin (was 3)
- Upgrading the shop no longer unlocks additional battlefield slots. Instead, it increases your capacity, the amount of vermin you can field. In practice, this means you can place your incomplete teams on whichever slot you like.
- Hero's second evolution delayed to start of wave 20 (was start of wave 15)
- Evolving a vermin now reduces the shop upgrade cost by 1
- Starting resolve changed to 999 (was 500)
Balance Changes
- Oddbones, Primordial Puree and Chained Crone gained the Undead type
- Bastard's Conquest now costs 0
- Kane's Sunken Treasure bonus now applies to all slots when Bribery is active.
- Kane's Liar's Dice is now twice as effective on heroes
- Apprentice's Abhorrent Sacrifice now puts 5 vermin in the shop instead of 4.
- Twisted Evoker has been reworked into Twisted Hexer. Now reads "When this vermin hits a blast attack, the enemy loses 1 in every stat. Whenever an enemy loses stats, they take damage equal to 1% of their health per stat lost." (used to be "Friendly vermin apply 3 turns of Soulburn to their target when hitting a blast attack. Every turn, Soulburn applies damage equal to 10% of the damage done and degrades a random stat point")
- Added a level 2 Magic synergy, causing them to lower 4 enemy stats when you have 6 Magic vermin
- Food synergy effect now prefers to target the vermin with the most HP missing (was a random damaged vermin)
- 3 Mech synergy now targets 4 vermin (was 2)
- 6 Reptile synergy now gives 20% crit chance (was 15%)
- Creature synergy now gives a 25/100/250 shield (was 25/50/100)
- All upgrades beyond tier 6 now cost 30 gold (was increasingly large amounts)
- Shop tier 7 odds of Tier 5 changed to 5% (was 2%)
- Poundedcake moved to Tier 2, Glock Magician moved to Tier 4, Gunmaster Ben moved to Tier 4, Paceyan moved to Tier 4, Gunbo moved to Tier 5, Hottwheelie moved to Tier 5, stats adjusted accordingly.
- Cecuratops reworked, Main Tank is now "Vermin is 50/100/200% more likely to be targeted, vermin behind this is 30/40/55% less likely to be targeted" (was "40/80/120% more likely to be targeted")
- Oddbones no longer gives shields to vermin under the effects of Armored Soul, where it would have no effect anyway
- Anne Droid's Stirling's Approximation now applies the buff to all allies whenever an attack misses.
- Primordial Puree's Sauerkraut Seal stat gain reduced to 1/2/4 (was 2/4/8, enemy debuff amount unchanged)
- Gunbo now does splash damage to all adjacent targets (was just vertical neighbours)
- Gunbo's splash values changed to 50/100/200% (was 30/50/100%)
- Poundedcake's Happy Birthday stat gain changed to +3/+6/+12 (was +2/+4/+12)
- Green Dinosaur with No Ability's No Ability EX stat buff reduced to 4/8/16 (was 5/10/20)
- Osidon now gives 1/1/2 Fast (was 0/1/2)
- Steaknife's Meat on the Bone changed to give 5/10/25 Lifes (was 4/8/20)
- Slightly buffed the base stats of: Laserface MKIII, Dinoswordus MKIII, Sickbread, Deadwheat, Osidon (all stages), Elder Cardist, Imp-roved Imp, Imp-eccable Imp, Raptile, MC Raptor, Roobee, Infanbee, Kidkarne (all stages), Cecuratops (all stages), Pen-Robo (all stages), Pumptank, Steaknife, Meatcleaver, Swipepent (all stages), Goodtime, Admiral Rusty Kane, Sea King Rusty Kane
- Squirt Gunner enemy gets -1 Lifes, +1 Muscle (Blast is now its highest stat)
- Wave 12 toned down
- Waves 15 to 18 toned down to compensate for delayed hero evolution
- Wave 19 fully reworked to be less "final wave"
- Toned down the Mystery Clowns again, added a new variant
- Added a frog
Minor Mechanical Changes
- The odds of attacking the opposing vermin now scale with the amount of potential targets. In practice, this makes fights with many enemies more predictable.
- Shields (granted by Oddbones or the Creature synergy) and are no longer just heals that can go past max HP, and now show up as a distinct part of the health bar. Currently this is just a cosmetic change, but in the future it could affect abilities that i.e. are active when below 50% health
- Abilities that affect the store at the start of the shopping phase now only trigger when vermin enter the store, so they are not wasted when heroes, passives or curses are in the store (affects Swipepent's Break & Enter and [REDACTED]'s Impartial Market)
- Temporary stat buffs are now preserved when evolving. Just like with permanent stat buffs, it takes the highest buff in each stat
- Dodge chance is now capped at 100% after substracting accuracy instead of before. This means a vermin with 130% dodge chance being attacked by a vermin with 30% accuracy will now dodge 100% of the time (used to be 70%, you're welcome Crone enjoyers)
- Cardist is now Magic/Edgy (was: Edgy/Magic)
- Oddbones is now Edgy/Reptile/Undead (was: Reptile/Edgy)
- Glock Magician is now Gun/Edgy/Magic (was: Edgy/Gun/Magic)
UI and Cosmetic Changes
- Added an intro cutscene that plays while the game loads and can be replayed from the menu
- Added a new background that scrolls as you progress
- Audio and screenshake settings are saved between games now
- Added [REDACTED] to several vermin. Others will get it later.
- Bosses that speak now have different dialog depending on which hero you picked
- Gave a new sprite and some different effects to the Resolve blast when you lose a round
- Raptile's final evolution has a new sprite and name
- Goodtime's evolutions have new sprites
- Piegliacci Jr. has a new sprite
- Heavy Squirt Gunner has had his sprite slightly changed
- Various Mystery Clown variants had their sprite or name changed
- Certain vermin now have a "Stats degraded" or "Stats gained" statistic. See how much Blast your Laserface distributed, or how many stat points Glock Magician has burned!
- Added a button to the store you can highlight to see the odds of getting vermin of a certain level
- Added a Threat number to the enemy preview that shows you the initial sum of all their base stats
- Ability descriptions are now slightly greyed out while on the bench to indicate they are inactive.
- Added a new sprite for shields, that now always shows up, and not just when you're above max health
- The shop buttons have been made slightly smaller to accomodate the larger shop size
- The shop can now be scrolled with the mouse wheel when it has more than 7 vermin in it
- The run summary screen now shows which rounds you lost
- Made the Reset/Quit buttons in the run summary screen not clickable until the fade-in is done to prevent accidental skips
- Added the tribes of stage 3 Evomin to the run summary screen
- Added a "+1 Free Reroll" line to the gold summary when you lose a round
- Added mouseover tooltips to the stat numbers on the vermin detail view that let you see the vermin's base stats, bonus stats, and temporary bonus stats, as well as a brief description of what the stats do
- Tribes are now ordered alphabetically instead of the arbitrary order in which I entered them into the type database
- If you have more than 5 tribes on the field, they now show in multiple columns, so their tooltip isn't covered up by the damage meter
- Added a dark overlay when the game is paused with the pause button or the options button
- Clicking a vermin while you are casting an ability no longer opens the Vermin Detail for the target, and slightly reduced the maximum time the left mouse button can be held to open it
- Added Undead Evomin forms, some new ones, several existing forms had their tribes changed
- Replaced some default menu components in the options and feedback menus with more purple ones
- Changed the sound effect for Oddbones's Cared All Along (used to be a placeholder sound I forgot to change)
- Icons for Master Conjurer and Master Transmuter recoloured to be more visually distinct
- Changed the layering on Sunken Treasure's visual effects so the star indicators for vermin you already have show more clearly
- Tutorial updated to clarify some things and properly refer to new/changed mechanics
- Made the game start sound spookier
- Slight wording changes on Kane's Bribery and Apprentice's Abhorrent Sacrifice
- All enemy mouseover popups now show to their left
- Slightly turned down the default value of master volume
- Rewrote certain abilities to specify they only affect friendly vermin
- Scrolling the mouse wheel no longer advances speech bubbles (pressing it still works, as does pressing any other mouse button or keyboard key)
- Armored Soul's particle effect now lasts until the vermin dies
Bug Fixes
- Fedorick's Diversity of Thought and Kane's Liar's Dice no longer buff vermin on the bench
- You can no longer open the shop with a controller (since that was the only thing you could do with a controller...)
- Fixed that Troopmin's vermin sprite and blast sprite were swapped
- Evomin's shadow no longer gets obscenely big when evolving
- Fixed certain enemies like Crazy Seal and Squirt Gunner not losing their ability when raised as a ghost by Rusty Kane
- Fixed various bugs related to Green Dinosaur with No Ability's No Ability EX not properly disabling or re-enabling abilities
- Fixed some interactions that caused a vermin's mouseover stats to not properly show when in the top slots
- Fixed an issue that caused Abhorrent's Sacrifice particle effect to not properly clean itself up
- Fixed a bug that caused a vermin's sell price to show up when hovering over certain parts of the sell spot
- Fixed the dust particles sometimes not properly cleaning themselves up
- Fixed a longstanding issue that caused blasts to sometimes work strangely with abilities like Squirt Flower or Kidkarne's, letting another vermin getting a turn before their counterattack happens
- Fixed the Wumpus Screech particle effect sometimes drawing behind other vermin
- Raptile's Bashful Band can no longer buff dead vermin when triggered during combat
